Singing is both an art and a science and doing it well requires the mastery of several important techniques that you learn through singing voice lessons. More than any other thing, breathing plays the biggest part in singing well and singing correctly. Professional singers practice their breathing regularly and thus are able to hit every note and hold them as long as necessary. Proper breathing relaxes the body and improves the voice’s tone and precision. Without proper breathing, one will never achieve their full potential as a singer.
Breathing in singing voice lessons starts from the mid-section, more specifically the diaphragm. Breathing doesn’t take place unless the diaphragm is moving. It’s this movement of the diaphragm that causes the lugs to inflate and deflate. Proper breathing while you are singing is initiated from the diaphragm. This will help you gain the greatest lung capacity possible, making it easier to sustain notes and reach the proper notes. Improper use of the diaphragm will limit your ability to breathe deeply and will lead to strained singing that will lower its quality and even lead to injury.
